Congrats! You’ve become a software company—without ever wanting to.

Oct 10, 2024

You thought that an outsourced team was going to be fast and cost-effective. 🚀

Or, hiring those developers in-house could give you that competitive advantage you were looking for. 📈

Instead, everything seems to take forever and drags on.

Worst of all, you don’t understand how this stuff works. 😠

You seem to add heads and expenses, yet things only slow down.

👉 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝗴𝗿𝗮𝘁𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀, 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗮𝗻𝘆!

You did not think you were a tech company or a software company, but now you always rely on your software and your software team.

And they are a constant blocker to your business. #@!%!

The teams talk about agile, scrum, and tech debt, but the costs keep increasing, and you don’t see results.

How did you get into this mess?

You were not a tech company. You were a regular business, and you only needed to customize your ordering, marketing, or sales systems.

One thing led to another, and here you are.

It’s frustrating as heck.

So, how do you navigate this? Who do you trust with advice?

How do you plan ahead and guarantee some results?

There is good news and bad news.

The good news is that there are many ways to escape this mess. It does not need to be painful, and it does not need to suck. There are ways for non-tech people to understand how software development works without being software engineers and talking bits and bytes.

The bad news is that some of what you expect may be counterintuitive. Unlike other businesses, such as construction, where building this has been done 1000s times and is understandable, software is still very custom.

What does this world look like?

1️⃣ Let go of the idea of top-down planning to the utmost detail and organize your business to achieve speed and agility. (Don’t worry—there are good ways of doing this.)

2️⃣ You will optimize your team's collaboration, learning, and adaptation. You will not achieve much certainty or predictability, to begin with, but you will become good at executing small but meaningful tasks.

3️⃣ That will be the basis upon which you build, and repeat and repeat and repeat, and bit by bit, you’ll be able to have a team that not only does not block the business but is also a source of competitive advantage.
